GYRO SPIN-AXIS BEARING PROGRAM: ADDENDUM A.

Abstract

Long-life high-temperature operation of ball bearings is presently limited by the lack of suitable lubricants and considerable effort is being placed on the development of lubricants for high-temperature use. This program was initiated to evaluate an alternative solution; the application of thermoelectric cooling to a bearing such that conventional lubricants may be used in a hot environment that would otherwise cause early failure.
