CH-47B FM HOMING SYSTEM.

Abstract

Over the past year the operation of the FM homing system in the CH-47 helicopter was reported unsatisfactory. These reports indicated that possibly the present antenna location on the aircraft was not suitable for homing. Due to these unsatisfactory reports, the test program described herein was implemented to establish the actual cause and to find an adequate solution for the homing 'problems.' Tests to determine if the antenna was installed on the aircraft properly and operating satisfactorily consisted of measuring the isolation, impedance, and bonding of the antenna. The AN/ARC-54 RT unit was removed from the aircraft and bench tested to insure satisfactory operation in the receive and homing mode. The interconnecting wiring in the aircraft was checked for proper installation. Without changing or modifying the existing installation, the FM homing system was ground tested and flight tested in accordance with the applicable equipment specification. (Author)
