OPTIMUM STRUCTURES FOR MINIATURE Ni-Cd SEALED CELLS AND BATTERIES.

Abstract

The tasks relating to the optimization of the electro-chemical aspects of cell design were primarily divided into three major categories as follows: The effects of various electrochemical treatments on the energy density of the nickel oxide positive electrode were evaluated; In order to maximize the ratio of negative electrode capacity to electrode weight, the performance levels of pasted cadmium (CdO) electrodes were studied; The effects of electrolyte quantity and concentration on cell performance were studied; Furthermore, the ratio of negative to positive plate ampere-hour capacities was found to have a marked effect on overall cell performance. The desired optimum ratio was ultimately accomplished by increasing both the porosity and volume of the negative electrode. (Author)
