EQUATION OF STATE OF GASEOUS MIXTURES CONSISTING PRIMARILY OF LIGHT HYDROCARBONS AND NITROGEN,

Abstract

To provide means for determining the volumetric and caloric characteristics of the mixtures of methane, ethane, and nitrogen found in many gas deposits in the USSR, the author presents the form in which the equations of state for gases and their mixtures are written and gives, in tabular form, values for the constants in the equations of state for ethane, propane, isobutane, n-pentane and nitrogen. Further, it is pointed out that functions for the interaction of various proportions of the various constituent gases must be derived, since mixtures of nitrogen and paraffin hydrocarbons do not form ideal solutions even at moderate pressures. Such interaction data is estimated analogically from thermic data for pairs of the gases under study. A good agreement between calculated and experimental values is reported. Effects of varying the temperature and the pressure were studied. (Author)
