RESEARCH ON SOLID STATE HETERODYNE DETECTORS FOR ULTRASTABLE OPTICAL SOURCES.

Abstract

The study of the field enhanced photoelectric effect included both theoretical and experimental investigations. The theoretical part involved the calculation of the energy band structure of tungsten, molybdenum and tantalum and the calculation of the periodic Schottky component of the photocurrent under high electric fields. The experimental part consisted of the measurement of the periodic Schottky emission from tungsten, molybdenum and tantalum into vacuum and of the study of electron emission between solid interfaces. Good agreement between theory and experiment was found in all cases. (Author)
