DETONATION TRIALS IN A TUNNEL SYSTEM.

Abstract

Trails were performed to study various effects of underground explosions. The trials included ten shots with charge sizes from 100 kg to 5400 kg TNT. Measurements were made of the blast wave propagation inside and outside a tunnel system, of the deformation of a blast door installed in the tunnel, and of the ground shock. Further, the range of the debris blown out of the tunnel was observed. The final 5400 kg shot resulted in a break-through of the detonation products and the formation of a crater on the surface. A further objective was then to study the damage caused by this event. The present report is a preliminary survey of the essential parts of the trials. The detailed results and final conclusions will be presented in special reports. (Author)
