A MACHINE FOR STUDYING THE INFLUENCE OF VARIABLES OF TEMPERATURE AND POWER CONDITIONS ON THE FATIGUE RESISTANCE OF REFRACTORY ALLOYS,

Abstract

A rotating-beam fatigue machine was modified to study the thermal fatigue resistance of high temperature alloys used for turbine blades. Changes in the gas temperature of an operating turbine for a 60 min period are given; the test was designed to simulate the temperature and stress conditions as closely as possible. Schematic diagrams show the operating portions of the machine and the electric circuitry for regulating temperature and stress during the test. (Author)
