WORK OF A TWO-COORDINATE TRACING DEVICE IN A MODE WITH A 'URAL-2' DIGITAL COMPUTER,

Abstract

A two-coordinate tracing device operating in immediate association with an electronic computer to draw weather maps is described. The device operates as a self-contained unit, i. e., by means of an intermediate information carrier, and it is designed according to the principle of analog systems. The technical design data are set by the requirements for producing synoptic weather maps. A functional transformer with a follow-up unit (for each of the coordinates) forms an electrical bridge with a diagonal whose voltage displacement reaches the system of the electrical drive of the coordinates by way of an electronic amplifier. In order to provide a linear relationship between the voltages yielded by the controlled resistances and the movement of the slave mechanism, it is necessary to fulfill the conditions of a constant sum of numerically controlled resistances. A circuit diagram of the transformer with a follow-up unit of one of the coordinates, a diagram of the direction of movement of the voltage and a diagram of the output commutator of the two-coordinate tracing device are presented. The programming of its operation is given in detail. (Author)
