SOLUBILITY OF NICKEL IN LIQUID SODIUM OF HIGH OXIDE CONTENT.

Abstract

The influence of oxide content on the solubility of Ni in liquid Na at 400C was investigated. The solubility of Ni increased with increasing oxide content of the Na up to the saturation level of Na2O in Na. The temperature- dependent-equilibrium solubility of Ni in liquid Na saturated with Na2O (oxygen added as NiO) was found to vary between 4 ppm at 300C and 21 ppm at 500C. The soluble species is postulated to be a compound of the type (NiO)x (Na2O)y.
