AN ADVANCED TUNING METHOD.

Abstract

Essentially all past techniques use a model composed of a first order lag plus dead time, the parameters being the gain, the time constant, and the transport lag or dead time. Another technique primarily intended for underdamped systems is based on a model composed of a second order system. If a second-order lag plus dead time model were used instead, an additional dynamic constant is included and the resulting representation of the real system should improve correspondingly. The objectives of this report are to present a complete tuning technique based on this type of model and to show how it is superior to other tuning techniques. (Author)
