EQUIVALENCE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN DIFFUSE RADIATION FIELDS FOR FINITE SLABS BOUNDED BY A PERFECT SPECULAR REFLECTOR AND A PERFECT ABSORBER,

Abstract

The paper demonstrates the use of computational methods in radiative transfer problems. It presents some simple algebraic relationships between source functions, as well as transmitted, reflected, and internal intensities, for a finite slab bounded by a perfect specular reflector and for the same slab bounded by a completely absorbing layer. Idealized models are used to derive simple analytical expressions. These expressions are evaluated numerically as a check on the diffusely reflected intensities.
