A SELECTION RULE FOR CARATHEODORY'S MULTIPLE ENTROPIES.

Abstract

The work described in this report is an outgrowth of some theoretical studies associated with a primarily experimental program on combustion and pyrolysis of carbonaceous solids with reference to their possible use as hybrid rocket fuels. Consideration of thermodynamic equilibria associated with condensed phases indicated a need for scrutiny of the commonly accepted principles defining equilibrium; and this led to a re-examination of the entropy function with particular reference to possible physical implications of integrating denominators, other than the absolute temperature, in Caratheodory's infinite set.
