A SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATICALLY POSITIONING ASTRONOMICAL DOMES,

Abstract

This report describes a coordinate conversion computer system which is used to transform azimuth, polar, and declination angles of a three-axis telescope mount into equivalent azimuth and elevation angles. The system uses the resultant angle information to automatically position the astronomical dome associated with the telescope mount. Descriptions of the coordinate transformations which are required of the system and the system design considerations are presented. Calculations required for the selection of servo components are also included. (Author)
