AN IMPROVED RADIOMETER DETECTOR SYSTEM.

Abstract

A detector circuit is described which has been used in many radiometer applications including highly sensitive receivers in the 18 to 40 Ghz region, multichannel receivers, and receivers for the 50 to 60 Ghz receivers where the noise temperature was 20,000 - 30,000K. The applications to detection of various constituents of the earth's atmosphere, to detection of constituents in other planetary atmospheres, and to measurement of planetary temperatures all entailed detection and measurement of small changes in the antenna temperature. In all these cases the detector was found to work very well and overloading problems in the operation of the receivers were eliminated. (Author)
