A MULTI-WAVELENGTH LINE-OF-SIGHT EXPERIMENT FOR REMOTE ATMOSPHERIC SENSING,

Abstract

This article describes a multi-wavelength program for exploring atmospheric inhomogeneities simultaneously with combined microwave and infrared techniques, each of which features particularly suited for such a study. The aim of the program is severalfold: (a) to investigate simultaneously the sensitivity of these new techniques to various kinds of atmospheric inhomogeneities so that the potentialities of these methods for remote observations can be assessed; (b) to study specific physical phenomena, both short and long term and (c) to acquire a better understanding of the electromagnetic scattering processes.
