CROSS SPECTRUM AND FILTER ANALYSIS OF MONTHLY RAINFALL AND WIND DATA IN THE TROPICAL ATLANTIC REGION.

Abstract

Series of rainfall, wind components, sea surface temperature (monthly data) of the tropical Atlantic Ocean were subjected to cross spectrum and filter analyses. Main interest was directed to teleconnections and phase relationships (time lags) of the annual cycle and to long-term fluctuations (periodicities between one and ten years). The following statistical results are discussed in detail: spectra, filtered series (e.g. biennial pulse), coherency, and phase differences. The behavior of the biennial cycle and some other results are compared with those of the equatorial Pacific region. (Author)
