PROSPECTS OF THE WORK OF THE CENTRAL SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF GEODESY, AERIAL SURVEY AND CARTOGRAPHY IN THE FIELD OF THEORETICAL GEODESY (Perspektivy Rabot TSNIIGAIK v Oblasti Teoreticheskoi Geodezii),

Abstract

In recent years, the solutions to the problems of the figure of the earth and its gravitational field have been greatly supplemented. To cope with these problems, the Central Scientific Research Institute of Geodesy, Aerial Survey and Cartography has created a new division of theoretical geodesy. This work discusses the tasks to be accomplished. Certain methods for determining the coordinates of the earth's surface in a single system are evaluated. These methods are the astronomic-geodetic method, the astronomic-gravimetric method, the geometric satellite method and the dynamic satellite method. The study of rapid changes of coordinates connected with the movement of the poles is directly related to the problems of static geodesy. This problem is in the center of attention in the realm of cosmic geodesy research and is of importance to any method studying the earth's figure since all of the methods utilize astronomic coordinates.
