CONSTRIP V, A COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR THE VERTICAL BARRIER--FINITE-SOURCE PLANE GAMMA RAY PENETRATION PROBLEM. PART I.

Abstract

The report contains a description of the CONSTRIP V Computer Program. The primary purpose of the program is to investigate the variation of the direct and wall-scattered dose rate from an adjacent wall for various source geometries. In order to compute the protection factor for actual buildings, account must be taken of the effects of interior partitions, roof contribution, skyshine, and radiation from upper and lower floors by other computational methods. The program calculates the penetration of radiation from a uniformly contaminated horizontal source area through a shielding wall to a point detector. This program differs from its predecessors in three major aspects: (1) barrier shielding walls may have lower edges above the source plane, (2) the wall may be of arbitrary thickness, and (3) contributions may be calculated for irregularly shaped source fields which have mutually shielding structures superimposed on them such as occur at typical street intersections. Additionally, the calculations may be performed for photons of arbitrary source energy subject only to replacing the build-up factor currently supplied in the program for cobalt-60 with the appropriate build-up factor.
