ULTRASONIC COMPACTION OF MARK 279 MOD O DELAY IGNITER COMPOSITIONS.
Abstract
A feasibility investigation was undertaken to explore the potential in utilizing an ultrasonically activated punch to compact the tungsten delay element compositions being considered for the Mark 279 Mod O Delay Igniter. Specifically, it was desired to reduce variance of burn time, and firing test data obtained indicated the probability of achieving this result. It was recommended that investigation be extended to establish an optimum combination of process variables and to produce sufficient data for high-confidence-level statistical determinations.
