OPERATION CYCLE OF EXPANSION TUBE WITH NOZZLE PLATE.

Abstract

The report presents an analysis of the operation cycle of an expansion tube with a nozzle plate located at the secondary diaphragm. Analyses are given for two situations: (1) the secondary diaphragm breaks instantly, and (2) it breaks after a delay due to finite mass. Equations are developed applicable to real gas in thermodynamic equilibrium in the driven and expansion sections of the tube. A discussion of numerical and graphical computational procedures is presented and calculations for air are shown for cases representative of operating conditions. (Author)
