REPORT OF CYCLOTRON OPERATION, 1 JULY-31 DECEMBER 1968.

Abstract

The operation and use of the NRL Sector-Focusing Cyclotron is described for the period 1 July - 31 December 1968. An active research program consisting of five experimental studies was initiated and vigorously pursued during this period. Several additional experiments were designed and equipment procurement was initiated. An average operational efficiency of 64% was reached for the entire cyclotron facility. The extended operation for research purposes has furnished valuable data on stability and reliability of the magnet power supplies and R. F. system. The beam path into Room 1 became operational in December and is used primarily for radioisotope production. Plans are being developed for future installation of additional beam paths into Rooms 2 and 3. These beam paths are necessary for starting new research programs. (Author)
