RELATION BETWEEN THE MAIN TYPES OF NETS USED IN THE LOWER REACHES OF THE DANUBE AND THE INTERESTS OF PRESERVING THE STOCK OF CONTROLLED FISHES (O Sootvetstvii Osnovnykh Setnykh Orudii Lova, Primenyaemykh v Nizovyakh Dunaya, Interesam Sokhraheniya Zapasov Reguliruemykh Ryb),

Abstract

In order to improve the status of fisheries in the Soviet sector of the Danube estuary area, special tests have been carried out with various types of nets in various seasons of the year. The data are compared with the specifications set by the Regulations for Fisheries. It appears that some paragraphs in the regulations have to be changed in order to carry out fishing on a rational basis, i.e., to preserve the stock of commercially significant fishes. Special tables listing various types of nets, their mesh sizes, major objectives and species of fishes that are caught, give a good insight into the effectiveness in the use of the nets. (Author)
