AN INSTALLATION FOR THE INVESTIGATION OF FRICTION IN A VACUUM IN ELECTRICALLY OR MECHANICALLY CLOSED SYSTEMS,

Abstract

An installation for determing frictional losses in geared electrical mechanisms under vacuum is presented. This installation consists of two identical dc electric motors connected through a set of gears. One of the motors acts as a generator and the other as an electric motor. The power loss of the system due to friction is determined electrically. A schematic of the vacuum chamber and electrical measuring circuit is presented. This installation may be used sucessfully for determining frictional power losses in planetary and other gear mechanisms. (Author)
