THE WEIGHT GUARANTEE AS IT AFFECTS THE DEVELOPMENT OF AERONAUTICAL SYSTEMS.

Abstract

The report is a result of continuous effort by mass properties engineers of the Requirements Branch to inform management personnel of the necessity for, and the importance of, being 'Weight Conscious.' The primary purpose is to provide an awareness of the various implications of an effective weight guarantee. The report presents an assessment of the weight guarantee as it affects an overall system program in the development of a vehicle of balanced design. Brief discussions are presented concerning the guarantee's philosophy of purpose and overall program impact as conceived by mass properties engineering. Variations in the aerodynamic performance of a large cargo aircraft are presented to emphasize the impact of deviations from the Weight Guarantee. (Author)
