INTERFERENCE AND SPECTRA OF WAVES IN SEISMIC PROSPECTING,

Abstract

The monograph is devoted to certain aspects of the formation and separation of seismic interference waves primarily by means of the Fourier integral expansion of signals into spectral densities. The first chapter reviews the literature on the study of waves in interference zones. The most important factors affecting wave formation, the excitation spectra, the effect of a medium on the shape of the spectrum during wave propagation, are evaluated. The second chapter discusses the spectral theory of the interference of two waves and describes the dependence of their characteristics on the frequency and phase compositions of the sum of the signals. Chapter three describes a method of constructing phase travel-time curves for quasi-sinusoidal signals and an approximate (iteration) method for determining amplitudes. Formulas are derived for the evaluation of amplitudes from the characteristic point values of a sum wave. The book closes with a description of some results of modeling experiments and field investigations conducted in the Karpatskiy foredeep. (Author)
