STUDIES OF DISSOCIATIVE ELECTRON-ION NEUTRALIZATION WITH SUPERIMPOSED BEAMS.

Abstract

A method has been devised for studying dissociative electron-ion neutralization with superimposed beams. By this method, an energetic beam of mass filtered positive ion is mixed coaxially with a beam of electrons. Neutral particles generated by dissociative neutralization are detected with a particle multiplier and results are used for determining the rate coefficient of the process. Preliminary experiments have yielded the first measured data for hydrocarbon ions.
