CONTINUOUS MATCHED FILTERS FOR DETECTING GAUSSIAN SIGNALS IN GAUSSIAN NOISE.

Abstract

The memorandum is a sequal to a paper entitled 'Digital Matched Filters for Detecting Gaussian Noise'. The problem studied was that of finding the best set of K digital filters to process an observed waveform in order to detect a random signal. In this memorandum two extensions are made: (1) The filters are continuous rather than digital (discrete); and (2) It is shown that the optimum set of filters simultaneously optimizes a large class of criteria, including the Bayes risk, the Bhattacharya distance, and the divergence.
