THERMAL BEHAVIOR OF CERAMIC COMPOSITES.

Abstract

The thermal expansion and thermal shock resistance of two oxide matrix composites have been investigated. These composites are representative of a class of composites incorporating hard, inert particles of micron dimensions within an oxide matrix. This class of composites is characterized by a microstructure containing a network of microcracks, which explains the observed anomalous thermal behavior. (Author)
