CALCULATION OF THE INTERACTION BETWEEN A SUPERSONIC GAS JET AND A COUNTERFLOW OF AN IDEAL COMPRESSIBLE FLUID,

Abstract

Equations describing the interaction between a supersonic gas jet and a counterflow of an ideal compressible fluid are derived. The equations are obtained by extending equations previously used for solving a similar subsonic problem. The method of characteristics is used to obtain a numerical solution for the supersonic problem. The results of the study are applied to an analysis of shock waves produced by impact of a small solid body against a solid semi-infinite obstacle. (Author)
