GROUND MOTION PREDICTIONS FOR NUCLEAR ATTACK AREA STUDIES.

Abstract

The project work is reported under two major categories, Analysis and Applications. The Analysis section discusses the technical data found in a rather broad literature search and considered potentially useful in making quite preliminary predictions of the ground motions that might be expected following a nuclear detonation, the predictions necessarily to be based on rather sparse geological and soils data for each site to be considered. The technical data were then used under assumed nuclear yields and burst points (air and surface), with one burst at or near each of several U.S. cities. The techniques used and results obtained are discussed in the Applications section of the report. (Author)
