EFFECTS OF DISSOLVED AND DISPERSED WATER ON THE DIELECTRIC COEFFICIENT OF AIRCRAFT FUELS,

Abstract

General methods of calculating dielectric coefficient of solutions and dispersed hetrogeneous systems are presented. Onsagers' equation is shown to agree well with data for various solutions. The equations of Rayleigh, Bruggemen and Bottcher for hetrogeneous systems give equal results for the low concentrations of dispersed matter involved. The effects of 0.01% and 0.03% water by volume in fuel were calculated in these equations. In all cases the fuel deviation index for both compensated and uncompensated gages was less than has been reported to occur due to variations in temperature and fuel sample for a given fuel type. The effects of dispersed water or ice were also found to be much less than those of dissolved water. (Author)
