GEOPHYSICAL INVESTIGATION OF THE DEEP-SEATED ZONES OF THE URALS AND PRINCIPAL RESULTS OF GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS (Geofizicheskaya Izuchennost Glubinnykh zon Urala i Osnovnye Rezultaty Geofizicheskikh Issledovanii),

Abstract

The report reflects the contemporary state of geophysical investigation of the region of the Urals. Geophysical prospecting methods play the leading role in the investigation of the deep-seated structure of the Urals, as well as of other regions. Deep seismic sounding yields the best data on the structure of the deep-seated parts of the earth's crust, and on its thickness. But the deep seismic sounding is carried out along detached profiles, and so the data of gravimetric investigations, in many cases also the data of magnetic investigations, play in combination with the deep seismic sounding an important role in the areal interpretation of the deep-seated structure of the regions. Regional interpretative gravimetric and magnetometric profiles crossing the geosyncline of the Urals from the Russian platform in the west, to the West Siberian Lowlands in the east, were carried out along a series of intersections within the boundaries of the Central and Southern Urals.
