A CAUCHY METHOD FOR AN INTEGRAL EQUATION OF LINEARIZED COUETTE FLOW,

Abstract

The report demonstrates the use of the theory of invariant imbedding to reduce the solution of a Fredholm integral equation to the solution of a set of ordinary differential equations with specified initial values. Various investigations in rarefied-gas dynamics require the solution of Fredholm integral equations with displacement kernels, and application of the invariant imbedding approach is useful. One important aspect of the approach is that a solution may be obtained at the boundaries only, disregarding the interior, with a significant savings in computational time and trouble. (Author)
