SHOCK PROPAGATION IN A COMPOSITE MATERIAL.

Abstract

A theory which predicts the Hugoniot curves or shock adiabats for a class of composite materials is developed. The composites considered must be composed of parallel fibers regularly imbedded in an infinite matrix, or must consist of alternate layers of the two constituents. A plane shock is assumed to propagate through the composite so that the normal to the front is parallel to the fibers or layers. (Author)
