A TECHNIQUE TO EVALUATE FUEL TANK VAPOR SPACE CONCENTRATIONS AND AN APPLICATION TO ANALYSIS OF FUEL TANK VULNERABILITY: TEM-236,

Abstract

A technique to analyze vapor space concentration transients throughout an aircraft wing fuel tank is described. The analysis considers the vertical diffusion of fuel vapor and the horizontal flow produced by venting. A computer program that utilizes this technique to generate mappings of the vapor space concentrations at selected times is described. The program is used to evaluate the vulnerability of a military aircraft vapor space during a hypothetical mission. (Author)
