PRESTRESSED NON-OXIDE AND SELECTED HIGH TEMPERATURE OXIDE CERAMIC STRUCTURES.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to produce a ceramic composition in which there was a residual stress acting to strengthen the product. There were two approaches to the solution: (1) a surface coating with a lower coefficient of thermal expansion and, (2) the utilization of an interior crystalling phase with a higher coefficient of thermal expansion in a glassy composition.
