THE EFFECTS OF PULSED GAMMA-NEUTRON RADIATION UPON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE UNFETTERED MONKEY.

Abstract

This report presents information indicating that unrestrained subhuman primates are capable of performing a learned task following a 4000-rad (midline tissue dose) pulse of irradiation. The animals exhibit a measurable performance decrement postirradiation with the most severe decrements occurring within the first 2 hours postpulse. Except during the period of early transient incapacitation, however, the animals were able to perform at a near normal level until shortly before death, at which time they became totally incapacitated.
