AN INVESTIGATION OF THE LAKE BREEZE AND ITS EFFECTS AT WURTSMITH AFB, MICHIGAN.

Abstract

Due to its proximity to Lake Huron, Wurtsmith AFB is affected by stratus and fog advected from Lake Huron with northeasterly through easterly winds. Because of this, a study was developed which would forecast all wind directions. Special attention was then devoted to the effects of the lake in developing antitriptic flow and its modification of the predicted circulation. The purpose of the study was to investigate the thermal interaction of the lake with local circulation and describe the associated weather phenomenon. A method of forecasting the lake breeze is presented as part of the investigation. (Author)
