ON THE DETERMINATION OF DISLOCATION DENSITIES

Abstract

The report gives rigorous derivations of relationships between various geometrical parameters and the 'intersection' and 'line length' dislocation densities. The relationship between the two means of obtaining dislocation density has not been derived previously in the literature. A discussion is also given regarding the validity of the assumptions made in the derivations. For a random arrangement of dislocations, the 'length' dislocation density is twice the 'intersection' density.
