RESEARCH ON ADVANCED GASDYNAMIC TEST FACILITIES. PART II. LASER-FLUID INTERACTION STUDIES,

Abstract

The report describes studies carried out on the application of lasers to aerodynamic facilities. This phase of the program has both an experimental and a theoretical effort. The experimental program is concerned with the response of a gas to a high-intensity ruby laser beam. The primary diagnostic tools are high-speed cameras and x-ray emission monitors. The report describes the experiment currently in progress and the various symmetric optical imaging devices which have been considered for an implosion generator. The theoretical effort has been concerned with the description of the motion of an ionized fluid produced by absorption of a high-energy laser beam. This work is both analytical and numerical. The methods of solution are presented. (Author)
