ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE SCATTERING WITHIN A PLASMA IN THE TRANSPORT APPROXIMATION.

Abstract

In a previous paper (AD-673 224) the radiative transport equation was derived directly from Maxwell's equations for scattering of radio waves by a turbulent plasma. In this paper we first review the approximations implied in the use of the transport equation. Specific forms of this equation are given using the Stokes parameter representation. Some numerical illustrations are given for radar backscatter, including the cross polarization of the backscatter wave. Since the transport equation used is of conventional form, the reader not wishing to see the detailed derivation can read the present paper without reference to the earlier one. (Author)
