PROGRESS REPORT PROBLEM H01-32 - AIRBORNE RADIAC 29 FEBRUARY 1968-31 DECEMBER 1968,

Abstract

The report covers the preliminary investigation of the technical feasibility of using an airborne radiation detector to measure the ground level dose rate over a fallout field after the fallout cloud has passed. Several detector designs were investigated to determine which would be best for use as an airborne radiac. Two NaI scintillation counters were tested at the U. S. Army Nuclear Defense Laboratory at altitudes up to 5,000 feet over large point sources to corroborate the preliminary calculations. A breadboard detection system based on these preliminary calculations and measurements is proposed. (Author)
