MONTHLY COMBINED WAVE HEIGHT MEANS AND STANDARD DEVIATIONS AND COMBINED WAVE MEAN AND MODAL DIRECTIONS.

Abstract

Numerical wave and swell analyses have been produced twice daily at Fleet Numerical Weather Central since 1961. The program was revised in 1965 and the output since 1965 has been used in this investigation. The wave and swell fields are routinely merged by a root-mean-square technique and provide combined wave height, direction, and period fields. The combined analyses, in gridded format on magnetic tape, have been used to compute monthly means and standard deviations of the wave height and modal and mean wave directions. The scheme of computation is described and the plotted charts are presented. (Author)
