MEASUREMENT OF NO(+)Cs CHARGE EXCHANGE CROSS SECTIONS.

Abstract

The charge-exchange cross section was measured for the NO(+) + Cs reaction over a relative energy range of 0.65 to 8.3 eV in a 90 deg crossed-beam experiment. In these measurements an electroformed collision chamber was employed to eliminate the usual uncertainties associated with the determination of the energy of charged particle beams at low energies. In addition, it was found that the appearance of vibrational excitation in the NO(+) ground state ion significantly increases the probability for charge exchange with cesium at a fixed relative energy.
