A PROGRAM FOR THE OPTICAL ANALYSIS OF CHARGED PARTICLE BEAM TRANSPORT SYSTEMS,

Abstract

A FORTRAN IV code is described which allows the user to trace the trajectories of individual rays, comprising a charged particle beam, through a beam transport system. The characteristics of the transport system undergoing analysis are chosen by the user, via input data statements. Uniform field analyzing and switching magnets, as well as quadrupole lens pairs can be included within such a system. Program output consists of the off-axis displacements and slopes for both median and normal planes, time spreads relative to the ideal beam path, and a plot of the calculated trajectories. All calculations are carried out to first order, and applicable only to the non-relativistic case. The program source list is included. (Author)
