A DIGITAL COMPUTER PROGRAM TO DETERMINE THE EXPECTED MEAN SQUARES FOR AN ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE.

Abstract

Experimental data are frequently analyzed using an analysis of variance. The expected values of the mean squares, (expected mean squares) are used to determine the proper ratios for tests of hypothesis and to obtain equations to estimate components of variance. The algebraic derivation of the EMS expressions can be quite tedious if the design involves both fixed and random effects. A digital computer program described herein was used to determine the EMS expressions for designs which contain up to 512 effects. (Author)
