ON SHPERES AND DOUBLETS IN STRATIFIED FLOWS.

Abstract

A theory is developed for the lee waves behind a sphere moving with constant horizontal velocity through an infinite liquid stably stratified. The analysis treats the difference in the vertical displacement from that known to exist in the non-stratified case. Simplifications in the governing differential equations lead to a class of approximate solutions each of which is defined by a particular form of a function. (Author)
