Abstract

The paper discusses plans of the USSR Hydrometeorological Service with respect to studying the world ocean. The purpose of marine research expeditions of the Hydrometeorological Service of the Soviet Union is to develop methods of meteorological and oceanological forecasting (especially long-range forecasting), and to obtain a fuller knowledge of the hydrometeorological conditions of the world ocean.
