PROLATE SPHEROIDAL WAVEFORM EXPANSIONS FOR COMPUTER AIDED SIGNAL PROCESSING.

Abstract

The report describes a practical method for computing direct and inverse Fourier transforms based on finite length records taken from data waveforms (which may have infinite length). A search for a method of improving the accuracy of signal processing operations has yielded a powerful series expansion technique using prolate spheroidal waveforms which as application not only to signal theory but to other fields where the Fourier transform is used.
