ORTHOGONAL FACTOR ANALYSIS OF 49 OPINION ITEMS IN THE MULTI-NATIONAL STUDENT SURVEY,

Abstract

Responses to 49 Likert scale questions asked of 2,447 students from 10 nations (2 African, 2 American, 3 Asian, and 3 European) were factor-analyzed using the Jacobi method for extracting eigenvalues and eigenvectors. The analysis resulted in three major orthogonal factors: 'Conservatism,' 'Non-conformity/independence,' and 'Leadership.' All factors include items referring to interpersonal, social, and international levels. (Author)
